Phoenix, AZ Chapter of Mocha Moms, Inc. Launches First Boys Booked on Barbershops Reading Nook

Local mothers group joins national initiative to encourage reading among boys in urban communities.

On May 6, 2009, the Phoenix Chapter of Mocha Moms Inc. launched the very first Boys Booked on Barbershop book nook in Arizona! The chapter would like to offer a warm hearted “Thank You” to Mr. Anthony Gathers, owner of Ageez Hair center for allowing Mocha Moms-Phoenix Chapter to create a book nook on his business premises.

Boys Booked on Barbershop and Girls Booked on Beauty Salons is a great opportunity to advance our children’s reading skills, while routinely visiting a barbershop or salon to receive hair services. Both the moms and kids were happy and elated about this community service activity.

We would also like to extend a thank you to Mocha Mom Bettina Johnson, Mocha Mom Arizona State Coordinator and the Mocha Moms Phoenix East Valley chapter for coming to celebrate with us! And finally, we would like to thank Mocha Moms Pat Gillum-Grigsby, Chapter Treasurer and Charalotte Hill, Chapter Community Service Chairperson for their hard work and dedication to see this project through to completion. If you are ever in the Phoenix area, please stop by Ageez Hair Center, 542 W. Southern Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85041, (602) 323-0511. The shop offers professional beauty salon and barber services.
