Letter From the Co-Founder

Thank you for your interest in Mocha Moms, Inc.

When we started this organization in 1997, we knew it would grow. The trend toward women leaving full-time employment had already been established as families across the United States were re-discovering the benefits of having a home-based parent. However, African-American families were not recognized as being part of that trend in large numbers. We knew though, that African-American home-based moms existed and that if we built this organization, they would come. But even with that knowledge, we never anticipated the explosive growth which occurred. We were amazed and completely awestruck by the number of women who wanted to be a part of the organization.

I believe part of that desire can be traced to the fact that support and non-exclusivity have always been core tenants of Mocha Moms, Inc. We welcome all people regardless of their race, gender, religion or socioeconomic status.  Further, while some of our members have eliminated employment altogether, many others work part-time, flex-time, night shifts, have home-based businesses, consult or freelance from home, have chosen alternative career paths, or have chosen to remain in their original career paths.

Another core tenant which draws people to Mocha Moms, Inc. is our commitment to community service. We have always encouraged the spirit of volunteerism and community activism within our membership as we believe that we must never forget to lift as we climb.

Thank you again for your interest in Mocha Moms, Inc. and we look forward to continued opportunities to serve.
