Mid-Atlantic Regional Director:
Damita Coats Wray

Damita Coats Wray became a Mocha Mom in 2005. Since then she has represented Mocha Moms Inc. at dozens of expos, book fairs and television appearances, continuously dedicating her talents to Mocha Moms. From newsletter chairperson for the Northern Prince George’s County Maryland chapter, to Chapter President, to Maryland/DC (DMV) State Coordinator, Damita’s creative organizing style has invigorated dozens of Mochas along their parenting journey. Her “Mocha Mommy and Me Dance Time” and “Mocha Mommy’s Milk” tastings (chocolate milk and strawberry milk served in Dixie cups) are examples of her inventive ways of attracting mothers to our Sisterhood.

As state coordinator, Damita sought new approaches to unite Mochas across eleven chapters. Utilizing social media, she implemented the first cross-chapter Mocha-to-Mocha communication in her region and planned the first regional Leaders Summit conducted by video conference.

A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Damita has called the Washington DC area home since earning a Computer Information Systems degree from Howard University. Her career in Information Technology includes software developer positions with IBM, U.S. Department of Labor, Hughes Medical Institute and several consulting firms around the nation’s capital. Despite her tech career, she is known to most by her more creative interests’ in house music, Pan-African art and natural hair shows. She was called one of the “Most Influential Women in DC” due to her “Nywele – Natural Hair Showcase” produced from 1997 to 2003.

She is a married mother of two tween/teen kids and one cat. Forever a “Georgia peach”, she will be proudly rooting for the Atlanta Falcons on Superbowl Sunday.
